The goal is rehabilitation or maintenance of each person's highest level of functioning and independence. Medical model facilities are traditionally staffed by health care professionals, and cater to those individuals in need of physical assistance or structured environments.
Typically an AIDS client in an AIDS Day Treatment program receives day care nursing and support services three to five days a week for a minimum of three hours per day. These clients need a high level of service intensity to manage health, mental health and substance abuse-related problems.
