A Lifetime of Opportunities
Morningside House, is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization, with roots dating back to the 1850's.
Our nursing facility is a modern, 386-bed facility affiliated with numerous colleges and universities. Our professional staff includes physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists and health-care specialists who provide for needs ranging from rehabilitation and dialysis through dementia and long-term care.
Physicians, nurses and certified nursing assistants assure that residents receive quality medical care. All aspects of resident care are monitored and computerized resident profiles maintained. Each resident is assigned a social services professional who offers guidance, counseling and support. Social workers help residents and their families with the many psychological, social and emotional concerns common to the geriatric and disabled population. In addition to its extensive professional staff, over 800 volunteers donate some 20,000 hours of service annually to the residents of Morningside House.
The rehabilitation team consists of licensed physical, occupational and recreational therapists, speech pathologists, and audiologists. The objective is to develop an individual program with emphasis on treatment that allows the patient to regain independent functioning as soon as possible. The treatment is hands-on. The equipment, state of the art.
S.H.A.R.E. (Specialized Help for those with Alzheimer's in a Residential Environment) is an in-house, day-care program developed to enhance the lives of those with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia. Daily, our professional team provides specialized therapeutic activities that meet individual needs. Program activities build reassurance and cohesiveness among residents and reinforce their orientation to time, place and self.
Our in-house pharmacy maintains updated computerized resident profiles. Prescribed drugs and dosages are monitored for interactions and possible side effects. Nurses and physicians are advised of pharmacological developments.
A carefully designed activities program includes regular performances by musicians and other artists, weekend concerts, evening programs, special events and visits to restaurants, museums, and shopping malls. Clergy provide worship services, spiritual guidance, counseling and pastoral calls to residents and also visit those of our community who have been hospitalized. A salon provides beauty and barber needs at modest cost.
Our 7-days a week Adult Day Health Care Programs for those with Alzheimer's Disease and dementia are located in the Bronx and Westchester County. Our Long Term Home Health Care Program provides coordinated services at home including licensed home care.
Other community based programs are available through our affiliated organization, Aging in America:
