Our History and Mission
Amsterdam Nursing Home, a premier long-term care facility in Manhattan, is a not-for-profit corporation that was founded in 1872 and moved to its present location at 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in New York City in 1882. We have maintained a fine reputation for more than 125 years. We are non-sectarian. Our mission is to care for the frail elderly in a highly residential environment.

Preparing for the Twenty-first Century
As part of an expansion and renovation project, we recently finished construction of a new 13-story addition, bringing our total bed count to 409. The project also includes the renovation of our existing building. Residents are afforded sophisticated clinical services in a highly residential environment, an environment traditional at Amsterdam since it began in 1872. We also completed restoration of a nineteenth-century Gatehouse on our property that was once used to pump water to the City of New York. The Gatehouse will house an adult day care center.

The Amsterdam Nursing Home Adult Day Care Center serves 40 community registrants per day who are provided all services of the nursing home while still maintaining independent living in their own homes.

Amsterdam Services Corp. under a contractual agreement, manages the 355-bed Taylor Care Center (TCC), a division of the Westchester Medical Center. This unique arrangement includes the provision of administration services and fiscal oversight. The Taylor Care Center, in addition to long term geriatric care, provides a ventilator-dependant unit, sub-acute care unit and a dementia program.

The Irving Wright Center on Aging is an outpatient center to provide primary care services to a geriatric population. It is staffed by Amsterdam Nursing Home attending physicians, who, when necessary, refer Wright Center patients directly to Amsterdam Nursing Home for short and long-term rehabilitation and nursing home care. The center is located at 1484–1486 First Avenue in Manhattan.
